In Singapore, locals often place objects on seats and tables while they order food from one of the stalls at a hawker center or food court. Objects range from tissue paper packets to umbrellas and even office IDs! This practice, of reserving a seat while one is ordering a meal, is called “chope”. In this series, I made placemats with an image of frequently-used “chope” objects and set them on tables in a food court. They were promptly removed.
